See the pot belly on the drunk horse...LOL

Caspian sees the dentist

Poor Caspian has been having trouble eating so I called the Vet in to see what is going on inside that big head of his...LOL. Well the vet says Caspians teeth look like a jack o lantern in the back. He has a fractured tooth that will need an equine oral surgeon to pull it. He cannot grind his teeth properly to eat and well there is nothing that can be done about it. The vet ground down the edges that were causing ulcers on his tongue and cheks. He will now and forever stay on processed foods. The vet says no hay at all because he cannot chew it correctly it is a choking hazard and can cause impaction. He is now on a diet of Strategy and 50/50 bermuda/alfalfa pellets but the vet wants us to wean him to only bermuda pellets. No more Alfalfa for poor old Caspian. Despite the problems with his teeth, he is continuing to gain weight and is very happy at his new home. He whinnies to me when I am coming up to him. My daughter and I did a double bareback ride last week and whew it was a little scary with that 70lb girl hanging onto me but Caspian was a champ about it.

Caspian coming this Sunday

Oh, I am so excited about Caspian coming on Sunday. I already have plans on a small trail ride Sunday evening if it cools down enough. My girlfriend also has a mare who needs a lot of work so we are going to do it together and work slowly to build them up together.
I went to Michaels today and got stuff to make him a sign for his corral. I am going to decorate his corral for his welcoming. I will put a picture once I have completed it.

The first photos I saw of Caspian

August 14, 2009 Holly meets Caspian

August 2009 I found Caspian on Petfinder as a adoption from Hanaeleh. When I saw the first photo of him rearing I was taken back to my childhood. I had my pony trained to rear just like Caspian. I immediately contacted Elizabeth at Hanaeleh and got the okay to come see him. On Friday August 14, 2009, my friend Kim, my daughter Suzanna and I started our trek to Lake Forest to see him. I spotted him right away and we were all in awe of him. He was so beautiful. As soon as Elizabeth took him out he started to use me as a scratching post and I fell in love. After a short ride I knew he was the one for me. Elizabeth gave us the okay and we are now waiting patiently for him to be brought home to San Diego. We are awaiting our new life together. The title photo is the first photo I saw of Caspian with Elizabeth.
